Warning: There be monsters ahead!!
Not really but hopefully I got your attention. Take note!
The services below are not inclusive because each review can only be done effectively if it’s looking at ONE aspect of a piece. They are listed in the order they should be done in, and only after Developmental Editing is complete (that is above my paygrade—for now).
Also… just in case? Good luck with the monsters.
Manuscripts: Editing
Proofreading
Fiction: $0.015 per word
Nonfiction: $0.02 per word
Turnaround: 15,000 words per day
Spelling: Will check the entire document word-for-word, not using spellcheck. I’ll look for region- or industry-specific resources when appropriate, but will default to Merriam Webster
Copyediting
Fiction: $0.02 per word
Nonfiction: $0.03 per word
Turnaround: 9,000 words per day
Grammar: can use a specific overall style guide if requested—e.g. APA, Chicago, MLA, Merriam Webster—but will default to MLA
Will create a style sheet to ensure consistency across text in accordance with author’s wishes
Will check spelling here too, though the main focus is grammar
Line Editing
Fiction: $0.027 per word
Nonfiction: $0.035 per word
Turnaround: 7,500 words per day
Will look at overall readability: Are certain words repeated throughout the text, and could they benefit from variation? Are there sentences or paragraphs which could be streamlined? Is there language which could take a reader out of the moment? Is there language which could alienate readers?

You send me your manuscript in Google Sheets or Microsoft Word and I will return it to you with tracked changes and/or comments (your choice)
Once you’ve reviewed my first pass and returned it with comments, a second review is included with the listed rated; further rounds of review will require renegotiation
NOTE: These services are not inclusive: if you book one level of editorial review it does not include any others
This reflects the fact that review is most effective when performed in independent stages
-
All rates listed are per word; this is calculated based on the product you send me, not the final product
-
Turnaround times are an estimate only (and a conservative one at that) of how long it will take for me to complete the work
-
“Standard” grammar and spelling reflects societal prejudices and inequities
Language is always evolving, and based on your goals and audience you may have different grammar and spelling rules to go by
I’m completely open to discussions on this topic before, after, or while I’m editing your manuscript
